James Cameron Has a Plan for Avatar Sequels
by Admin on Feb.08, 2010, under Movies
Now that Avatar is officially the biggest movie ever made, having grossed over $2.2 Billion dollars worldwide, everyone wants to know when there's going to be a sequel, and what that sequel might be.
Comingsoon.net spoke to James Cameron about the possibility of more Avatar movies while on the red carpet for this year's Santa Barbara Film Festival as the filmmaker was due to receive the Lucky Brand Modern Master Award.
Asked whether he had a direction for sequels for Avatar when he was writing the script 15 years ago, Cameron said:
"No, but a lot of ideas for the sequels kind of evolved out of writing the story for "Avatar." Anything that we designed, ideas that we had, if we couldn't figure out how to put them in the movie we said "We'll stick it in the sequel," so we have a big backlog of ideas."
And while he couldn't say how many sequels there would be, he did admit that he has a clear story idea for Avatar 2:
"I definitely have a story arc in mind for the second film and even on a very vague base for a third film. That doesn't mean we'll do a third film - it doesn't mean we'll stop at a third film. We'll just have to see where it goes."
So, now that we know Cameron definitely has a plan in the works, will we see Avatar 2 as his next project?
"That hasn't been decided yet," Cameron said.

Take This, Tabloids!
by Admin on Feb.08, 2010, under Entertainment
We hoping you're reading this, OK! Weekly.
Move a little closer to the screen, In Touch.
Feast your eyes on the photos below, Star.
Amidst utterly contrived rumors that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are breaking up - with the former pursuing Jennifer Aniston, and the latter going after Johnny Depp - the couple brought son Maddox to Super Bowl XLIV. They don't exactly look like a family in trouble, do they?
Pitt and Jolie, who reside in New Orleans and have dedicated time/money to the rebuilding efforts there, joined friends in a VIP box to watch the game. They celebrated together as the Saints upset the Colts 31-17.
And while the classy couple would never say it, allow us to get inside Brangelina's head as the pair laid a Super Bowl smooch on one another: Eff you, tabloids!

2010 Super Bowl Ads: The Best and the Worst
by Admin on Feb.08, 2010, under Television
While the New Orleans Saints first-ever Super Bowl victory is the rightful lead story coming out of Super Bowl XLIV, let's face it:
Many viewers paid more attention to the commercials than the game. With that in mind, we present our three favorite ads from last night below, along with the spot that was the most useless and and annoying. First, the best:
1. Jay Leno and David Letterman... together! This was as shocking as it was hilarious. Following the NBC late-night debacle that saw Letterman constantly poke a lot of fun at his former network and current rival, Jay actually appeared alongside Dave in an advertisement for his nemesis' show.
This was the best PR move Leno could possibly have made, while it also proves that Oprah can bring anyone together.
2. Betty White for Snickers. It's hard to pinpoint the reasons why, but this Golden Girls star is comedic gold these days. We could watch her get sacked in the spot below for hours on end.
3. Parisian love, Google style. The world's most dominant search engine demonstrated that sweet can win out over funny sometimes. In the following commercial, we watch an entire relationship play out via a minute-worth of search terms.
As for the worst? We could have chosen Taco Bell's strange use of a rapping Charles Barkley; or GoDaddy.com once again resorting to nothing but attractive women teasing themselves getting topless.
But we're going with an ad for Coca-Cola.
We love The Simpsons and we love Coke products, but we don't love a combination of the two that provided nary a chuckle.
Is there any reasons anonymous actors couldn't have starred in this commercial? It was lazy and misguided on the soft drink's part to assume that the mere use of Mr. Burns and company would come across as humorous or creative. Gotta give us more than that.
What a waste.

Some Republicans Do Understand the Need for a Comprehensive Climate Bill
by Admin on Feb.08, 2010, under Environment
I know it may seem impossible but some Republicans do understand the need for comprehensive climate and energy legislation.
Given, some may not entirely believe the climate change thesis, many do understand the national security, oil, and job creation aspects of it.
The most outspoken Republican is Sen. Lindsey Graham who has been working with Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman to develop a comprehensive energy bill that all parties can agree on. He was recently quoted as saying that an energy bill that does not regulate carbon would be “half-assed”.
Sen. Graham continued to emphasize the importance of regulating carbon since it will lead to the investment in alternative technologies that will create new jobs, reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and allow us to be come a leader in such technologies.
Sen. Graham also expressed his concerns of China’s continued push into alternative and green technologies and stated that the longer the U.S. waits the further we will fall behind.

After weeks of hype, the Justice Society of America finally meshed with Smallville's Clark Kent and company on the special episode "Absolute Justice."
For viewers solely familir with the Superman mythology according to Smallville, it was a little odd to have the show’s ongoing storylines shoved aside for a week - but for others, this was a comic book fan's dream come true.
Which side do you come down on? What did you think of the episode?

Twilight's Taylor Lautner to Play Stretch Armstrong
by Admin on Feb.06, 2010, under Movies
In a puzzling announcement from Universal Pictures, it seems Twilight star Taylor Lautner will be taking on the daunting task of playing Hasbro's legendary kid's toy Stretch Armstrong in a movie project cleverly titled Stretch Armstrong. Inexplicably, the movie will be made in 3-D and is targeting a 2012 release date.
Now, I've heard some dumb things in my time, and I'll admit that a Stretch Armstrong movie isn't the worst of them. But Taylor Lautner? Judging by my limited knowledge of Stretch Armstrong, which was a toy I remember from my childhood, I would have expected a beefy, burly guy like Hulk Hogan or even The Rock to play Armstrong, not a former beanpole like Taylor Lautner. Sure, he got buff for New Moon, but he's not jacked like Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
I understand the need to appeal to a younger market, and Lautner is a hot commodity in the tween world right now, but give me a break. This reeks of flavor-of-the-month packaging, no pun intended, on behalf of Hasbro and Universal.
Anyway, here's what they have to say for themselves:
"Universal has put all the elements in place to successfully launch two of our classic Hasbro brands on the big screen," said Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro, Inc. "The addition of Taylor Lautner and the 3-D twist to Stretch Armstrong, in addition to giving Pete Berg and the filmmakers the extra time and resources to make Battleship an even bigger summer blockbuster, is sure to pay dividends when the film is released in 2012."
"In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power," said Langley. "We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch."
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention- they're making Battleship, too. Could this be a sign that the Mayans were right about 2012?

Before Avatar and The Hurt Locker, there was... Martini Ranch!
by Admin on Feb.06, 2010, under Movies
This year's Oscar race is all abuzz with the relationship two of the most high-profile Best Picture contenders share- Avatar and The Hurt Locker are directed by James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow respectively. What's the big deal, you say? Well, Cameron and Bigelow were married for a hot minute back in the late 80's.
What we didn't know is that right around the time they were hitched, the two directors collaborated on a music video for a band called Martini Ranch, which, appropriately enough, was the brainchild of Bill Paxton, who had starred in both Cameron's Aliens and Bigelow's Near Dark.
Cameron directed the music video Reach for Paxton's band, and cast Bigelow as the main bounty hunter girl in a video that can only be described as an 80's train wreck. It's basically a western with motorcycles and trucks instead of horses, and for some reason, Bigelow's bounty hunter, who's out to get Paxton's outlaw, carries what is basically DVD that contains a video Wanted Poster, suggesting that the entire story may take place in the future, as this would pre-date DVD by almost a decade.
Love it or hate it, check out James Cameron's one and only music video, Reach by Martini Ranch, in the player below. For a real treat, compare it to what both directors have been up to lately by perusing our Avatar videos and watching The Hurt Locker trailer!
